Tape device/drive using mt command

With SAN around the use of tape backups have been set in the background. But before storage devices/filer this was the way to go for backing up data.

For me it's still worth familiarizing oneself with this commands. So here are the common ones you might encounter:

) Rewinding a tape
# mt –f /dev/rmt/0 rewind

2) Display the status of a tape drive
# mt –f /dev/rmt/0 status
It displays information as tape is loaded, offline, total files, blocks etc.

3) Retensioning a tape
# mt –f /dev/rmt/0 retension
